Tik Tok (previously known as Musical.ly) is one of the most popular apps ever, it is a platform designed for creating, sharing and discovering 15-60 second long videos which people use to express themselves. It is known for the use of popular songs being lip-synced to, dancing, comedy acts, story-times and POV’s (point of views).

Body
Description

Where did it come from and who created it?

The app Musical.ly was bought in November 2017 by Chinese developer ByteDance, for markets outside of China. In August 2018 they merged with the app VideoStar and rebranded the app to TikTok. TikTok is not available in China however the app Douiyn is the TikTok equivalent app in China, and its servers are based in countries where the app is available. TikTok owner ByteDance is a $75 billion Chinese tech giant. At the beginning of 2019 it had 188 million new users.

Who uses it and how did it become successful?

TikTok is available in 154 countries worldwide with 500 million users. 41% of users are aged between the age of 16-24, 55.6% of users are Male and 44.4% are female. India has many users (which is interesting because it is banned in India), and accounts for approximately 25% of app downloads. TikTok is intended for 13+ users according to the app's community guidelines. The app can be safe for teens with proper parental guidance. It is successful because social media is a big thing these days and young people are embracing it because it is easy to use and entertaining.

It became successful due to the rise of social media through the use of phones and devices. TikTok’s success is largely due to the popularity of Musical.ly. It is currently the most popular app in the USA with over 26 million monthly active users. There are many famous people that use the app such as; Britney Spears, Will Smith, Gordon Ramsay and The Rock. These famous celebrities bring attention to the app from their reputations and fan following.

Where and why did it get banned?

TikTok has been banned in two different countries; India and Indonesia. In both countries the governments felt that it encouraged inappropriate content and was targeting youth and children. Both countries rescinded the bans after TikTok implemented safety protocols and age verification policies. Currently TikTok is not banned in any countries.

How do you use it?

1. Download the app and sign up.

2. Set up your profile.

3. View the video feed.

4. Like, comment, or share videos you enjoy.

5. Search for videos.

6. Follow users via videos. search, or TikCode. (Every profile has a code that can be used to copy and paste and it will take the user to their profile.)

7. Set up your shot and pick out special effects.

8. Record the video.

9. Post the video (to the public or to your friends) or save it to your drafts.

Conclusion

TikTok is an educational and entertainment app and you can learn from the videos and enjoy them. TikTok is one of the most popular and most used social media apps currently in the world. Give it a try and see if you like it.

In my opinion i really enjoy Tik Tok. It is a fun/funny app. Everyone who has Tik Tok drop your @'s below and i'll follow you! :)

WALT: Write a recount

Personal Goal: To use correct punctuation.

Things to remember
Structure: title, orientation, sequence of events, concluding statement
Punctuation & paragraphs
Describe characters & places
Use metaphors, illerations, similes,

On Tuesday the 1st of October, my family and I flew to the Gold Coast, Australia. When we arrived we went to our apartment and then went to bed because it was late.

The next morning we woke up early and got ready for the day. Dad, Charlotte, Oli and I went to wet n wild and mum went to shop. We had a long fun day of riding the water slides at wet n wild. When we got home we ate dinner then went to bed.

On Thursdays it was our last full day in Gold Coast, so we shopped until we dropped. We went to Harbour Town for about 5 hours. When we got home later we just chilled out in our apartment and went to sleep. The next day we took a 3-4 hour drive to Noosa. My dad had booked us our own private house. It was huge, and it had a swimming pool.

We didn’t do much activities in Noosa, but Jess was and her mum and brother were in Noosa at the same time as my family, so we hung out for a few days. On the first day of hanging out with Jess, her mum took us to a little mall near my house. Then we hit the beach. We were out for a few hours then went back to mine and go for a swim in the pool. Jess stayed at my house that night. The next morning we woke up and went swimming, we were swimming for almost the whole day. Jess’s mum and brother came to our house, and we had a BBQ. Jess stayed another night at my house, as well as her mum and brother. They left the next morning.

It was our last full day so we went out for drinks and dinner. The next day we packed up all our stuff and headed for the Gold Coast. After our long awaiting drive for the airport we finally arrived. We got through check-in and security so we had food. A couple of hours had passed, and we were ready to board our flight. We found our seats, sat down and enjoyed the flight. We finally landed, so we got our bags and headed home. It was a fun 10 days in Australia! I can’t wait to go back some other time.

In class we have been focusing on writing with good punctuation and paragraphs. We had to write 3 paragraphs about anything. My paragraphs are on netball.

Personal Goal: Use correct punctuation

Paragraph 1

There are different positions in netball. In netball you can play 6 a-side, 7 a-side and sometimes 5 a-side. The positions for 6 a-side are: two 'A'’s (shooters), two 'D'’s(defenders), and two 'C'’s(centers). The positions for 7 a-side are: 'GS' (goal shoot), 'GA' (goal attack), 'WA' (wing attack), 'C' (center), 'WD' (wing defense), 'GD' (goal defense) and 'GK' (goal keep). In 5 a-side there are: two 'A'’s (attack) two 'D'’s (defense) and one 'C' (center).

Paragraph 2

The rules in netball are pretty simple, all players play on a netball court which is divided into thirds. In the two end thirds there are semi-circles where the GA and GS may shoot from. Whatever goal your GS and GA are shooting in is called their ‘goal third’. The GS is only allowed to stay in their goal third. The GA on the other hand, can go into their goal third and the center third. In the middle third there is a small circle where the 'C's (centers) start the pass off (the pass off is where the center passes the ball after the whistle has been blown). C’s are allowed in all three thirds, but are not allowed in the semi-circles. The GK are the same as the GS’s they are only allowed in the goal third, but the GK doesn’t play in their goal third, they play in the other team's goal third. The GD defends the GA, so the GD can go into the other team's goal third and the center third. The WA and WD can go into the goal third and center third. The WA can go into their team's goal third but not the other team's goal third. The WD is the opposite to the WA, they can go in the other teams goal third, but not into their teams goal third. The game starts by the C doing the pass off. Players may not walk, step or run with the ball. Once a player has the ball in their hand, they can take 2 steps, but as soon as they take the third step the umpire will blow their whistle and say “stepping” or “footwork”, the ball will then passed to the other team. If a player crosses a line that marks a third, but they aren’t allowed in that third, then the umpire will blow the whistle and say “offside” which then the ball is passed to the other team. Players are only allowed three seconds with the ball, if the ball is not passed after three seconds the umpire will then blow their whistle and call “held”, which then the ball is passed to the other team. If a player from the opposition team pushes, hits, shoves, etc, the umpire will call “contact” and the ball will be passed to the other team, and the player who contacted the other player will have to stand-aside until the pass has been made. If a player puts their hands up or jumps to defend their opponent and are within 1 metre, they will be called up for “obstruction” and will have to stand aside.

Paragraph 3

The New Zealand national netball team is called ‘Silver Ferns’. The Silver Ferns recently won the 2019 World Cup! They won the finals against Australia by one point, the score was 52-51. The Silver Ferns have won the World Cup five times  in: 1967, 1979, 1987, 2003 and 2019. The Silver Ferns captain is Laura Langman. Their head coach is Noeline Taurua and their assistant coach is Debbie Fuller. The Silver Ferns became a netball team in 1938 to represent New Zealand in the Australia tour.

Today for writing we had to write a short story that included a lot of punctuation. Here is my short narrative about a clown.

Once there was a clown. This clown had baggy clown clothes on. His hair was big, it was also red. They clown liked to chase kids around and scream
“i'm going to eat you!".
One day a little girl (Estelle) yelled back at the clown
“Why do you want to eat us?” the clown replied with “you look tasty!”.  It’s only a matter of time before the kids were going to be eaten, they were so sad...

Camp Letter to Beth !

In class we have been writing 'Thank You' letters to the parents who came on camp with us in Week 5. This is my letter to George, Gabby's father who was my group leader. I have printed this and sent it to him as well.
Please enjoy and remember to leave a comment.

Dear Beth,

I would like to say a huge thank you for taking my group to high ropes, for keeping us safe, teaching us how to work the ropes at the right time and how to use them properly. You encouraged us to get up on the ropes and keep on going even when someone was scared and wanted to come down.
It was really nice when you ate meals with us cause I loved to sit, talk and spill the tea with you and Saskia, cause you’re my English bestie ♡ ! We loved having you play kickball with us cause we needed the extra people to make it a lot more fun and you definitely made it more fun, especially because you were on my team.
So I would like to say another huge thanks to you for looking after us, playing with us and having a great positive attitude towards us and the activities.

From Rosie ♡
